You Can Know The Holy Bible Is The Word Of God

Over the millennia that man has existed there have been numerous religious writings that are considered sacred by those who trust them. While the Holy Bible is one of those works, it has special elements with authority and power that cannot be matched by any other sacred writ.

So, how do we know that the Holy Bible is the written Word of God? After all, there are a large number of sacred writings adhered to or, in the least, simply claimed as divinely given by others who follow to some degree what those writings state (or just want some religion to hide behind). There are some religious groups that are quite adamant that only their writings are God’s Word. True Christians will say that about the Holy Bible.

Whether Christian or non-Christian, either side makes such a claim on faith. However, not all faith is “completely blind”

faith, and this is especially true for those that state the Holy Bible is the Word of God. Our faith in the Holy Bible is not "blind faith" as some allege but has its basis in facts. Here are a few of the reasons we can know the Holy Bible is the Word of God.

Its Principles Work

While there are other bodies of works, even non-religious ones, where the principles they contain work, the span and magnitude of what is contained in the Holy Bible is unsurpassed by any other. Of utmost importance are the spiritual principles that it contains, and there are multitudes of them.

One example is Romans 7:5-8:2. There, part of the focus is upon struggling with sin, but the discourse concludes with the hopeful fact that if one in is truly in Christ they have been freed from the law of sin and death. The meaning of “the law of” in Romans 8:2 is the same as saying “the principle of.”

Without reading the Holy Bible there are some that recognize their plight as described in Romans 7. Practicing sin is a vicious cycle that only ends in defeat. Would to God they would read the text and discover how to switch from one principle to another!

Its Prophecies Literally Come To Pass

There are thousands of prophecies in the Word of God, many of which have been fulfilled, and fulfilled precisely as they were written. There are some study Bibles available that will point out some of these fulfilments. One of my favorite study Bibles is the Scofield Study Bible.

For an example of Holy Bible prophecy being fulfilled let us start with the Book of Daniel which was completed around the 6th century BC. Daniel 9:26 stated Messiah would be "cut off" (killed) and then Jerusalem would be destroyed. History records both happened.

In the Gospel of Matthew, just before He was crucified (in fulfillment of Daniel 9:26) around 30 AD, Christ prophesied that the Jewish Temple would be completely destroyed (Matthew 24:2). When asked by His disciples (Matthew 24:3d, Young's Literal Translation), "Tell us, when shall these be? and what is the sign of thy presence, and of the full end of the age?," the first thing He said (Matthew 24:4c-5) was, "Take heed that no man deceive you. For many shall come in my name, saying, I am Christ; and shall deceive many." In 70 AD Jerusalem and the Temple were destroyed and the Jews scattered.

What about the false Christs (Messiahs) mentioned by Jesus? There have been a number of them since that time but one of the earliest and best known fulfillments {1} was an uprising in 132 AD led by self-styled Messiah Bar Cochba (Son of the Star, see Numbers 24:17). Lars P. Qualben writes, "In 135 A.D. the rebellion was crushed by the Roman government after more than a half million Jews had perished. Jerusalem was rebuilt as a pagan city and called Aelia Capitolina." Israel ceased its political and geographical existence.

This "chain reaction" of fulfillment continued, hitting the 20th century. Isaiah 66:8 indicated Israel would be back. This prophecy came to pass May 14, 1948, when the British mandate over Palestine expired and the Jewish People's Council approved a proclamation declaring the establishment of the State of Israel {2}. That same night the United States recognized Israel as a country.

As an extra point, the United Nations (UN) was founded in 1945. The founding of the UN and the re-establishment of Israel sets the stage for the literal fulfillment of Joel 3:1-2: "For, behold, in those days, and in that time, when I shall bring again the captivity of Judah and Jerusalem, 2  I will also gather all nations, and will bring them down into the valley of Jehoshaphat, and will

plead with them there for my people and for my heritage Israel, whom they have scattered among the nations, and parted my land." Verses 9 to 15 point to Armageddon, described in Revelation 19.

Before 1944 there was no United Nations and there was no Israel. We now have both. What we can expect next along this line is the Temple to be rebuilt and The Beast (aka, the Antichrist) with the False Prophet to arise. Then shall Daniel 9:27 be fulfilled in its time.

Lives Are Miraculously Changed By The Holy Bible

There are multitude thousands of testimonies to the fact that lives are miraculously changed by the Holy Bible. Martin Luther, a Roman Catholic priest in the 1500s, was powerfully drawn to its sacred text which shaped him to receive the saving grace of God, being transformed from a nervous, confused and depressed person into a bold unswerving leader who upheld the truth of God's Word.

More recently in our time I can briefly mention a lady who checked herself into a hotel room one night, determined to kill herself with a gun. For some reason she pulled open the drawer to a nightstand next to her bed and found a Gideon Holy Bible {3} in it. She read it. God moved upon her, and she was drastically changed by His power--changed to continue on living, and live that life for Him!

The Gideons International have many more testimonies about how the Holy Bible has changed people for the better. One example was an atheist who started reading the Holy Bible and could not stop. She read the entire Holy Bible through then surrendered her life to Christ.

A really touching account is of a distraught mother in Newark, NJ. Beset with bills and a host of problems she got her gun and gathered her children in the kitchen. She was going to kill all of them and then herself. But then, when one of the sons saw the gun he jumped-- and out of his pocket came a Gideon New Testament. He had received it from the Gideons when they visited his school that morning. The mother saw the New Testament, put down the gun, and picked up the Holy Scripture. She soon dedicated her life to Christ.

This list can continue, and I, along with millions of others, can add my name to it. The Holy Bible is a work of God that can change anyone's life if they permit it to happen, when they surrender to its Author, the King of the Universe.

{3} A Gideon Bible is not a version or translation of the Holy Bible. Gideon Bibles are King James Bibles / New Testaments usually placed by the Gideons in hotels, motels, and other establishments. Learn more about the Gideons at .

Unless otherwise noted all Holy Scripture is from the 1769 Authorized Version with spelling of some words updated for our time in addition to changing LORD to YHVH as it rightly should be when the text so indicates. An * next to the abbreviation for another translation or version indicates the same for the text presented.
